<p>On Thursday, December 17, 2020, the 12th RubyWorld Conference 2020 was held at the Matsue Open Source Lab in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture.</p>

<p>From the viewpoint of preventing the spread of Covid-19, this international conference was held online only one day, and was broadcast live on YouTube. With the aim of spreading Ruby use and research in more technical areas through various sessions introducing examples of business use related to Ruby, education and research, and initiatives in public institutions, 14 people from domestic and overseas will give lectures, and the number of viewers at the time of live streaming will be 475 (Japanese channel: 388, English channel: 87), number of views is 5, 292 times (Japanese channel: 3,817 times, English channel: 1,475 times ※ as of 21:00 on December 18, 2020).</p>

<p class="text-left" style="font-size: 1em;">Yukihiro "Matz" Matsumoto is the creator of the recently popular Ruby language. He started development of Ruby in 1993, so it's actually as old as Java. Now he works for Network Applied Communication Laboratory Inc. (NaCl, also known as netlab.jp) which has sponsored Ruby development since 1997. He also serves as a chairman of the Ruby Association, a non-profit organization focused on supporting Ruby. Since his real name is too long to remember and is difficult for non-Japanese speakers to pronounce correctly, he uses the nickname Matz on the Net.</p>

<p>The “Ruby Prize” was established in 2013 as a “newcomer award” for the Ruby community in order to properly evaluate people who newly participated in Ruby community activities and promote the spread and use of Ruby.</p>
<p>This year, it will hold the “Ruby Prize 2020” with the aim of recognizing individuals who have outstanding achievements and achievements in the last few years.</p>
<p>Winners of the Ruby Prize will also give an award and a lecture at the “RubyWorld Conference 2020”.</p>
